By David Theoret
Let's say you find yourself in the Baton Rouge area for any number of reasons. Maybe you're the person in the company charged of planning events and you're there to look at a few venues. Or, it could be that you're headed there to play golf and are looking for some accommodations that are reasonably priced and ultra-comfortable. If either of these describe your current situation or if you're simply headed there for business or pleasure, let me recommend a hotel worthy of your consideration: The Marriott Baton Rouge. This beautiful hotel will exceed your expectations, no matter what the reason for your visit.
The Marriott Baton Rouge is a top choice among hotels in downtown Baton Rouge and is located off of I-10, literally minutes from a litany of things to do. This functional, high-rise hotel sits just 4.8 miles from the Louisiana Art & Science Museum and the campus of LSU is a mere 3 miles away. It's also a short drive to the Mall of Louisiana as well as several big name casinos. In the event you happen to be in Baton Rouge to play golf at one of 6 area BREC facilities, The Marriott is centrally located to just about all of these municipal courses.
The Marriott Baton Rouge offers a wide variety of rooms and suites; all of which have been recently renovated. Every room boasts pillow-top mattresses a walk-in shower and have separate sitting areas. You'll also find a mini-fridge, coffeemaker, and flat-screen smart TVs loaded with Netflix & Hulu. If you're looking to get some work done while there, you'll find a large desk with a comfortable office chair, ample lighting and free Wi-Fi.
At the Marriott Baton Rouge, there are a number of ways to fill your downtime. There's a state-of-the-art fitness center where you can keep up with your workout schedule or if swimming is more your thing, take a dip in their refreshing outdoor pool.
In case you get hungry, Stinky's Fish Camp - located in the lobby - offers fresh seafood and Cajun favorites freshly prepared in their kitchen and delivered to your table. And you can bet that with a name like Stinky's, it's got to be good! Only the freshest ingredients and local seafood are used to create classic dishes, with a well thought out wine list that is based on taste, not price, to round out the experience. Like oysters? Then you've got to try Stinky's Oyster Log, a plank chalk full of oysters on the half shell. If you've never had a chargrilled oyster, you don't know what you're missing. Stinky's offers oysters 10 different ways. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner and have full bar service including several local microbrews on tap.
The staff at the Marriott Baton Rouge work as one, like a well-oiled machine. They go above and beyond, almost seeking out opportunities to stand out as the best hotel staff in the area. Whether it's a member of the maintenance crew offering to assist you with your laundry needs, or Ike; a man that seemed to be everywhere all the time; making sure your every need was met. After a long day out on two of BREC's golf courses, that just happened to be my birthday, my wife and I returned to the hotel only to be greeted with a birthday surprise. As it turns out, my wife had made a quick call to Ike to let him know it was a special day. When we returned to the hotel, I was presented with a special "cake" and a rousing chorus of happy birthday. Manager Ralph Ney has assembled a very special crew.

About: David Theoret
David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.
Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.
After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
